Despacito A song performed by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi along with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It was the top one streamed music at that period within six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music didn't just bring interest back to the category, but also Latin music as a whole. There were in 2015 two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it onto the Top 100 In 2020, the number of songs that made it was 41. The release of Justin Bieber's bilingual version to Despacito (2017) well-known artists soon began collaborating on reggaeton tracks, like Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna and Maluma with Maluma on Medellin (2019). By 2020 a few reggaeton musicians were unhappy with the genre's direction toward the mainstream, but a new generation namely Rauw Alejandro, sought to maintain the pace of evolution in reggaeton. His style often included elements of electronic dance music, in addition to other styles.
